CATOPTROPHOBIA – fear of mirrors
Also known as spectrophobia, the fear of mirrors (or rather, our own reflection) may very well stem from unrealistic societal standards of beauty. However, other experts believe that catoptrophobia can be traced back to a very ancient fear of still waters. Primitive people believed that their reflection in the water was a their own soul staring back at them. This lead to folklore worldwide and superstitions, such as a broken mirror equating in seven years of bad luck.
