Compare Antivirus Software

There are many great antivirus options, so we help make things simple.

When choosing an antivirus security solution, there are a few things to keep in mind: Multiple endpoints (phones, laptops, tablets, etc..)? You get what you pay for in most cases because the technology behind the scenes needs to be the most up to date and robust enough to catch the latest cyber threats.

    About Antivirus Types

    Endpoint Protection

Also referred to as endpoint security, endpoint protection refers to the complex approach of protecting a network of devices (also known as endpoints). These endpoints can include devices such as smartphones, laptops, tablets, remote desktops and other wireless devices.

Securing these devices can happen at the device level and in the cloud. The software monitors activities and files in the endpoints. Once installed at the network level, all endpoints are protected under that server.

    Business Endpoint Security

Many businesses require a secure network for employees to connect and share files. There have been many data breaches over the past decade and this has gotten a lot of attention recently. Specifically, when a hacker breaches network security infrastructure, they have access to personal and sensitive data. This data is then either held for ransom, sold on the black market or just destroyed. Endpoint security helps prevent ransomware and malware prior to exploitation of data.

    Antivirus vs Endpoint Protection

Both attempt to protect the devices from data loss and malware. Antivirus is typically installed on the actual device itself while endpoint protection software is installed at the network level overseeing devices.

Difference between Endpoint Security and Antivirus

Antivirus is one of the components of endpoint security. Whereas endpoint security is a much broader concept including not just antivirus but many security tools (like Firewall, HIPS system, White Listing tools, Patching and Logging/Monitoring tools etc.,) for safeguarding the various endpoints of the enterprise (and the enterprise itself against these endpoints) and from different types of security threats.

More precisely, endpoints security employs a server/client model for protecting the various endpoints of the enterprise. The server would have a master instant of the security program and the clients (endpoints) would have agents installed within them. These agents would communicate with the server the respective devices’ activities like the devices’ health, user authentication/authorization etc., and thus keep the endpoints secure.

Whereas antivirus is usually a single program responsible for scanning, detecting and removing viruses, malware, adware, spyware, ransomware and other such malware. Simply put, antivirus is a one-stop shop for securing your home networks, and endpoint security is suitable for securing enterprises, which are larger and much more complex to handle. – — source: comodo.com

    Best Security Software For Business

PCMag just came out with their latest reviews for security software. There are a few categories, but we’ll focus on the overall satisfaction since that encompasses the entire score. Webroot came out on top with a 9.3 rating followed by BitDefender at 9.0. MalwareBytes, Microsoft and Avast all followed with upper 8s and other brands such as Kaspersky, Norton and McAfee came in below. — source: pcmag.com

Best Security Software For Personal Use

Again, looking into PCMag’s latest list since they do such a great job in vetting out multiple specs, we’ll look at overall ratings for individual use antivirus. At a rating of 4.5, Webroot, Bitdefender and Kaspersky topped the charts. Each had similar specs, but I noticed Webroot was the only one that offered a firewall. The other two however offered vulnerability scans on queue. All offered behavior based detection and phishing protection. Nowadays, behavior based AI detection is the norm. Any antivirus without this level of protection should be skipped immediately. — source: pcmag.com
