Since diabetes is characterized by the body’s failure to break down sugar properly, glucose tends to remain in the bloodstream like a nuisance. This follows various symptoms like frequent urination, excessive thirst, hunger, and elevated blood sugar readings. Diabetes is irreversible but the good news is that it is definitely manageable. Nicotine doesn’t help either since it just facilitates constriction of the blood vessels, causing poor circulation. Dishes that are either stir-fried, sautéed, heavily seasoned, or creamed should be eaten sparingly. They contain a lot of fat which can only worsen diabetic complications like heart diseases. If you love vegetable salads, you may want to stick with olive or sesame oil instead of rich mayonnaise for dressing.
Sauces on barbecued dishes should also be taken in moderation because of the sugars and preservatives that are present in most packed ones. Rice and pasta are good sources of carbohydrates, but half a cup for each meal won’t do you any harm; just try to keep it in moderation. A diabetic diet should be a pleasant, tasteful, healthy diet that’s not bland or tasteless. Enjoy putting together your healthy meal plan!
